Listserv
Information
Listserv
conversations are email discussions among NSRF members. If you
wish to join, be removed
from or change your address on any listserv, please submit the form
below. Also, please take the time to review listserv
norms and instructions below.
Listerv Norms and Instructions
Posting
Post a message to the listserv by emailing a message to the listserv
address. Your message will be delivered to everyone on the listserv,
so be mindful of your large audience. Upon posting,
you will receive an email notice that your message was distributed
to the listserv. You will not receive a copy of your own message.
Replying
When replying to a message posted by someone else on the listserv,
your reply will go to everyone on the listserv. It is best to send
personal responses directly to the individual rather than to the list,
to avoid bogging down the email in-boxes of other listserv members.
Also, when replying to another message, try to refrain from quoting
the entire message. Paraphrasing or quoting selectively is kinder
both to people’s eyes and e-mail boxes.
Attachments
Because of the prolific problem of spamming and viruses, our listserv
does not allow attachments to be sent over the list. A message that
contains an attachment will still be posted, however the attachment
will be stripped from the message. If you would like a document to
be made available to everyone, please contact Chris Jones at cjones@nsrfharmony.org.
He can place documents on the web for people to retrieve.
Digest
Once you are a member of a listserv, you may choose to receive all
of the messages sent during the day to that listserv as a single
message, rather than receiving them as individual messages.
To enroll in the digest, please take this action:
1. Address an email to listserv@harmonyschool.org.
2. Leave the "Subject Line" blank.
3. Within the text of the message type without quotes "set listname*
digest"
*listname
is the name of the list, for example, nsrfcoaches, nsrffacilitators,
etc.
4. Lastly please remove any signature that is automatically
inserted, this will cause an invalid request.
You will receive a confirmation upon the successful subscription
to the digest.
Removal
To be removed from the listserv, please send a request to nsrf@harmonyschool.org or
fill out the form above. Please do not send a removal request to
the listserv, as it clogs the in-boxes
of group members with a message that does not pertain to them.
Auto-Replies
If you set up an automatic reply for incoming email messages, please
be sure to include an an exclusion for this listserv. Any member
who’s
email account sends automatic replies to the listserv will be removed
from the listserv immediately. Reinstatement in the listserv can
occur
after the automatic reply is removed.
Posting Tips and Etiquette:
-
Include
a subject line for your posts
-
Keep
each line in your message shorter than 70 characters
-
The
sole line consisting only of an "=" sign should be the line
most email programs generate before your message and after your header
-
Use
and electronic “signature”, including your name, email
address and institutional affiliation.
-
Long
signatures are discouraged. They may be humorous the first time, but
get old quickly (and take up valuable net bandwidth and computer space).
-
Think
before you post. Do you really want to say this to all 700+ people
on the list? Reread what you wrote. Did you really say what you intended
to? Once a message is sent, it can’t be retrieved.
-
Flames:
a "flame" is an emotionally charged posting, and is often
directed at someone. Be sure you really want to post it! Some listservs
do not tolerate flames.
-
To
signal humorous intent use some sort of "smiley", such as
:-). Facetiousness and sarcasm can be misunderstood easily in an email.
-
DON’T
SHOUT — unless you really mean it. The use of all uppercase
letters is considered shouting, and may be interpreted as rude. Only
use all caps selectively for emphasis.
-
Please
participate! Your ideas are important. Just because you think
everyone
knows something doesn't mean they do. If you’re not
sure, send the posting to an experienced friend on the list (or
the list
owner, nsrf@nsrfharmony.org)
to see if the information may be valuable.
-
This
list has its own character, just like any "real" grouping
of people (such as a party, or a meeting). The list functions best
when people respect the character of the list. It’s also good
to respect the differences among list members and have a certain tolerance
for our individual eccentricities.
